Abstract
This paper reviews some examples of new equipment designs issued from close cooperation between a utility and a supplier. A new approach in the design of medium voltage outdoor substations in presented reducing significantly space requirements, standardizing overall designs, optimization of erection and maintenance procedures of the substations. Furthermore, the new design allows cost optimized and reliable motor operation of all switching devices and hence easy integration of the substation in advanced automation schemes. Obtaining as a global result the customization of the design (engineering), purchasing, start-up processes into a simple automated solution applicable for multiple projects
