Abstract
This paper describes a microcomputer based load-angle and line frequency measurement for synchronous machines. A photodetector senses the rotor position and its output is compared with a reference signal from the terminal voltage. The phase difference represents the load angle. The line frequency is obtained from the terminal voltage. The design of the scheme uses one PC 386 IBM microcomputer for control, storage and display. The sensor´s response is fast. The system also provides a feedback signal for synchronous turbine/generator load/frequency control purposes. The performance of the developed system was investigated with a micro-synchronous generator set. Experimental results are presented
