Abstract :
Data rates were achieved that are about 2.5 times that available in present magneto optical (MO) technology were obtained. The modulation of the magnetic field while the "write" laser power is held constant substantially avoids many thermal time constant problems that seriously limit data rates in other forms of MO recording. The low inductance of the "write" coil and its close proximity to the disc increases the write speed potential; consequently, the data rate capability becomes more comparable to conventional magnetic recording.
