  • Abstract
    The use of a recently established open resonator technique for measuring scattering properties of single particles is described. Application of a system of three resonators operating at frequencies around 10GHz, 35GHz and 70GHz has provided detailed measurements of the scattering properties of single particles having a range of compositions of ice, water and air. The physical state of the particles is determined principally by video recording. The results obtained are compared with theoretical models and are of sufficient accuracy to resolve detail in the scattering behaviour. The significance of the results to wider aspects of microwave propagation is discussed.
