Abstract :
The Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique is becoming increasingly popular as a means of analysing the transient and frequency responses of planar microwave and millimetre wave structures. So far, however, little attention has been given to the means by which such a structure should be excited so as to give accurate results. In this contribution it is shown that the use of mode templates leads to an increase in accuracy of the time domain data with little computational overhead. Results are compared to those of other authors.
