Abstract :
In this paper, a case study of web usage mining for analyzing student activity is presented. Web sites supporting three traditional, face-to-face and essentially practical CS2 courses are audited using specific software. The courses web sites include organizational information about the course, theoretical resources, notes, laboratory materials and a web forum for queries and interaction among the students supervised by the teaching staff. Collected data provide information about navigation patterns. In this paper, the analysis performed is described, as well as the main conclusions reached. Results include information about studying habits as well as web content design; effectiveness of changes in course methodology is analyzed too. Finally, conclusions and main lessons learned are presented.
