  • Abstract
    In code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular mobile communications systems, the teletraffic carrying capabilities and service quality depend on system parameters which can vary considerably with time and environment. In studying the variability in the teletraffic performance of CDMA systems, the authors employ a measure of service quality, called CDMA quality measure (CQM), a weighted sum of degradations due to blocking and speech impairments. Then, for a required CQM value, teletraffic capability is defined as that value of offered traffic for which the CQM value can be maintained. This teletraffic capability is a more meaningful measure of CDMA teletraffic performance than is the concept of capacity as used in frequency division multiple access (FDMA) and time division multiple access (TDMA) systems. The reverse (mobile to cell-site) path is simulated in non-uniform CDMA networks and teletraffic capability is evaluated for finite CDMA cellular networks to show how traffic capability is suitable for quantifying the performance variations under various operational conditions
