Abstract :
Resonance characteristics and field distribution of the Whispering Gallery (W.G.) mode in an elliptic dielectric disk are investigated by three dimensional analysis and X-, K-band model experiments. Resonance frequency and order of resonance are obtained by integration of a local phase constant of the elliptic disk. In the analysis, an assumption is introduced that the local phase constant is regarded as equal to a circumferential phase constant of the W.G. mode on a circular disk that is inscribed to the elliptic one. Results of the analytical study of resonance frequency of the elliptic disk W.G. mode are well confirmed by experiments.
