Abstract :
The conventional least squares boundary residuals (LSBR) method has been applied to certain electromagnetic problems, in particular those which involve the wave propagation in planar structures. The main difficulty in this method is the choice of a numerical technique that will allow the optimization of factors such as the computation time and memory storage. In spite of its tedious numerical implementation, the LSBR method seems to be quite satisfying as far as accuracy is concerned. The LSBR method guarantees an approximate solution that converges to the correct solution. This method does not suffer from the appearance of non-physical solutions in the numerical solutions compared to the Galerkin´s method. A modified LSBR which is based on a changing of the basis function is used which offers high precision. Also, this technique permits us to manipulate with matrices of reduced size, so the computation speed is increased. The results obtained are compared with the theoretical and experimental results.
