On disturbance rejection paradigm in control engineering

There are three paradigms in control engineering: the industry paradigm, the model paradigm and the disturbance rejection paradigm, from which the current design methods are illuminated and compared in this paper. While the industry paradigm is empirical and the model paradigm rigorous, the disturbance rejection paradigm comes back to the essence of controls: rejecting disturbance, i.e. uncertainties, and provides a refreshing perspective on Active Disturbance Rejection Control, with many implications, technologically and conceptually.
