Abstract :
An overview about the commercialization of biomass fast pyrolysis, as well as its challenges and barriers in engineering , is presented. Several leading companies of pyrolysis in the world are talked, and their technical characteristics are revealed. Meantime, a number of competitive universities and institutes in China for their pioneering work on biomass fast pyrolysis are glanced. The biggest barrier in biomass fast pyrolysis is the shortage of raw biomass due to seasonality and regionality, blocking and bridging occurred in feeding too. The standardization of bio-oil and its preliminary properties guidelines for use in industrial burners are discussed. Furthermore, the use and treatments of bio-oil as an alternative resource of chemical materials and transportation fuels are recommended. The increasing investment on education and environmental impact assessments is required.
