Abstract :
A multidimensional probabilistic modeling technique is proposed and its applications to video coding is presented. The probability distribution of two adjacent pixels in subband signals are modeled by bivariate generalized Gaussian distributions (GGD). Quantizer design, bit allocation and entropy coding is based on this probability distribution function (PDF) model. We show that use of bivariate generalized Gaussian PDF models yields a significant improvement in rate-distortion performance over univariate GGD models
