Abstract
A novel differential amplifier is presented which uses an inductor to replace the active current source in conventional differential amplifiers. This simplifies the circuit structure and, more significantly, enables differential amplifiers to operate at much higher microwave frequencies. Details of computer simulation and the circuit design equations are given in the paper. Experimental results of its successful application in a MMIC frequency doubler with output at 16 GHz are also described.
