Abstract :
The authors review important publications relevant to the application of thyristor-controlled elements for damping of turbine-generator shaft torsional oscillations resulting from power system disturbances and subsynchronous resonance in the time span of 1980-1990. simulation studies reported in the referenced papers have been done on small power systems like a single generator connected to an infinite bus through one or two parallel lines. Simulation of thyristor-controlled brakes on larger systems is recommended in order to gain better insight into the problem of turbine-generator shaft torsional oscillations resulting from power system disturbances and subsynchronous resonance. Important results and conclusions of the papers are described
