Abstract :
The conventional doubly salient permanent magnet (DSPM) machine has concentrated windings in stator and unipolar flux linkage. This paper presents a novel single phase DSPM generator with full-pitched winding, offering higher efficiency and less copper consumption. The static characteristics of the proposed DSPM generator are analyzed based on the finite element method. It is shown that the full-pitched DSPM generator holds bipolar flux linkage, while the power output capacity keeps the same as the concentrated winding configuration. The power density of the full-pitched DSPM generator may be further improved by extending the permanent magnet (PM) into the stator slot and adding DC excited winding, respectively. The improved full-pitched DSPM generator may be used in the application for wind power generation.
