CCTV camera sharing for improved traffic monitoring

Public space CCTV is used for a number of outward facing public services including: Traffic Management; Enforcement; Security, including crime prevention; Civil Emergencies, and Infrastructure support. These are graphically depicted in Figure 1. Within any geographical area it is possible for these functions to reside within completely different departments, with each department often installing their own cameras in isolation, sometimes onto technically separate systems and with differing operational protocols. Within Greater London, Transport for London is addressing this issue by pioneering camera sharing initiatives with the Local Authorities across London.
