Abstract
A field study to characterize facsimile performance on the network between AT&T and a foreign country was conducted using the Taguchi method. The method is especially well suited to tackling the problem of characterization of switched network connections because of the multiple variables that have to be included for a complete study. a full-factorial method that includes all levels of all variables would be very difficult to implement, given the logistical constraints of conducting international field characterization. A description is given of the variables involved, the motivation for using the Taguchi method, the choice of the orthogonal array, the study implementation and the results
