Abstract :
An intense optical pulse while propagating in a fiber undergoes dispersive and nonlinear change of phase rotation. It is the SPM (single pulse propagation) and XPM effects due to some uncontrolled birefringence of the fiber. While this effect can be disturbing, it is also utilized for passive mode-locking of fiber lasers. Simulation of pulse propagation in fiber optics is carried out by solving nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Both dispersive and nonlinear effects have been catered. In order to get accurate results in a cost effective manner adaptive step size algorithm has been adopted. The results are checked and found in coherence with conventional numerical algorithm
