Abstract :
Design of drives with high acceleration becomes very simple and clear when the fact is used that torque-speed product and torque-acceleration product are transmitted unchanged by an ideal gear. At a first step those motors can be selected which offer sufficient rated power and power rate. When designing gears for each of these motors two ranges of gear ratio result from requirements of constant-speed operation and accelerating processes. For suitable motors both ranges must have an overlap from which a value of gear ratio can be chosen fulfilling all demands. Finally criteria are presented how to vary a motor´s data to improve its suitability for a given application and how to do the final choice of motor and gear. All results do not depend on type of motor and can be applied to applications with rotating or linear motors and/or loads.
