            Abstract : 
We use lensed-fiber pigtailing to attain 90% coupling efficiency in a packaged InGaAsP/InP quantum-well slab- coupled optical waveguide amplifier (SCOWA) exhibiting 0.8-W saturation output power and 13.8-dB gain. Improvements resulting from use of a diamond heat-spreader are reported.
