Abstract :
A novel local area network technology called the improved token-passing ring is proposed based on unused links that exist in a pure token passing ring. A performance evaluation was performed through extensive simulation. Results show that the improved token-passing ring has a shorter delivery time, higher throughput, and smaller average queue length, and makes more efficient use of links in a network compared with the pure token passing ring, since the proposed approach uses concurrent transmission. In addition, the author has proposed a scheduling policy called conflict-avoidance. Under this scheduling the delivery time can be reduced and network throughput increased since more messages can move around the loop simultaneously
