Abstract
In this paper, a novel coherent combining procedure is devised specifically for UWB Rake receivers to enhance the strength of the received signals and at the same time reduce the additive noise. We take full advantage of the redundant information due to the repeat encoding that a UWB system always uses to enhance the performance of the decision detection. The numerical results show that the BER (bit error rate) performance of the RAKE receivers is significantly enhanced when using our proposed method compared with that obtained using the conventional method with the hard decision detection.
