Abstract :
The S frequency band will be soon free for new mobile communications systems including either mobile terrestrial links or satellite links. New compact antennas were developed with the following bandwidths: 1885/2025 MHz (for the transmission band) and 2110/2200 MHz (for the reception band) for these systems. These novel antennas are easily integrated on the handsets. Their far field must be omnidirectional. The satellite bandwidth is currently covered without taking into account circular polarization. Metallic boxes (160/spl times/55/spl times/20 mm) are used to simulate the handsets. Two handsets were developed depending of the scenario on the future link (half or full-duplex). The effect of a small thickness of metal was also examined by designing a two-antenna handset using a dielectric box covered with silver paint.
