Abstract
This paper proposes a simple sensorless algorithm for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) using a flux observer in the stator reference frame. The rotor position is estimated easily from flux linkages in the stator reference frame. Since the flux linkages are calculated from the motor voltages and currents in the stationary reference frame, an open-loop start-up method in which a constant current vector rotates is used. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated with experimental results.
