  • Abstract
In this paper, we show an efficient automatic synthesis tool based on a complete full-wave numerical method and supported by a nonlinear optimization technique. For automatic synthesis tool, the supporting full-wave analysis method must be highly adaptive for discontinuities in waveguides, even if their structural dimensions are varied into unexpectedly complicated ones at intermediate steps of the optimization process. For this purpose, we have developed an efficient numerical-analysis technique based on a vector finite-element method (FEM) supported by a newly developed hybrid edge-element formulation. In this paper, we first show the good applicability of the newly developed FEM to transfer problems of three-dimensional electromagnetic-circuit components, taking coaxial elbows as examples. Then we try to synthesize two circuit components, one is an ultra-wideband coax elbow for high-power applications and the other is an efficient transition between the rectangular waveguide and the dielectric image guide in the waveguide.
