Abstract
Pulse compression techniques can be implemented using minimum peak sidelobe (MPSL) binary codes. Noncoherent pulse compression (NCPC) was introduced in many publications using the on-off keying (OOK) modulation. This technique is based on modifying bipolar pulse compression codes into unipolar signals through Manchester coding. In the receiver, the detected signal is cross-correlated with a bipolar reference signal. This technique yields two large negative sidelobes response in addition to doubling the bandwidth. In this paper, a new technique is proposed for NCPC in case of OOK modulation based on unipolar codes via using a hybrid of two identical matched filters. The output response is typically as the coherent detection case if using the bipolar pulse codes without large negative sidelobes or increasing the bandwidth in addition to implementation simplicity.
