Abstract :
Substrate-emitting, second-order distributed-feedback quantum cascade lasers were fabricated and characterized for the first time. Devices operated in a single longitudinal mode near 5.1 microns over wide temperature and current ranges with a longitudinal beam divergence of less than 1 degree.
