Abstract :
This paper presents the application of an infinite element of the inverse approximation type to the finite element (FEM) analysis of open transmission lines. The use of this type of infinite element has several advantages with respect to those based on the direct method. It may be easily included in the element library of the existing FEM codes, not neading modifications in the formulation of the electromagnetic problem or in the FEM procedure. Results show the efficiency of the chosen element in terms of accuracy and CPU time.
