Abstract
The hydrophobicity recovery time of polymeric electrical insulation should be minimized to maintain self-cleaning properties in polluted environments. The high density of epoxy compared to silicone rubber insulation restricts the diffusion processes which are responsible for this behavior. This work investigates methods of overcoming this restriction, beginning with simplistic microstructural concepts and concluding that more complex nano-scale concepts are needed.
