Abstract
Full wave simulation of VLSI interconnects is gaining importance in the signal integrity analysis of high speed VLSI designs. However, the conventional circuit simulation involving dispersive system of VLSI interconnects with full wave model is extremely CPU expensive. In this paper, an efficient method based on the Complex Frequency Hopping (CFH), to incorporate the results from the full wave analysis of interconnects into the circuit simulators is proposed. Formulation is discussed with respect to the single line case, which can be readily extended to the multiconductor case. Spectral domain approach (SDA) is used to obtain the frequency dependent parameters of the full wave model. The method is accurate while it is faster than the conventional circuit simulation techniques by one to three orders of magnitude. The proposed method is useful for accurate and efficient transient response estimation of high speed VLSI system designs involving microstrips, striplines, rPEEC models and transmission lines with frequency dependent distributed parameters.
