Abstract :
We developed an intelligent directory system which consists of a X.500 directory and an intelligent agent with a genre inference function, in order to create an intelligent yellow page service where a user can get information by only entering natural language text representing his/her desire. This paper describes the system structure of the intelligent directory system and its technology. An evaluation of the implementation based on our study indicates the inference precision of 88.6% and an inference throughput of less than 0.1 second per inquiry.
