Abstract :
The paper analyzes the bit-error rate (BER) performance of rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and gives the exact closed-form expression of average BER over Rician fading channel. The presented formula is valid for arbitrary bits-to-symbols mapping including Gray and non-Gray cases. Deduction of average BER only involves integral operation on basic functions, which is much easier to estimate the system performance. Simulation results show that our expression can provide more accurate BER performance than union bound method in entire SNR range, especially in low range SNR.
