Abstract :
The controllability indices of a state-input pair coincide with the minimal indices of the rational nullspace of an appropriate controllability pencil. In fact, this numerical result (well-known in other contexts) reflects the fact that the Wedderburn-Forney space of the kernel of a controllability pencil is isomorphic for a filtered vector space with the controllability subspace
