Abstract :
The forward silicon vertex tracker (FVTX) is a silicon detector being planned as an upgrade to the PHENIX experiment at RHIC. Four layers of silicon strip layers at forward and backward rapidity will add to the vertex capability of the PHENIX silicon vertex tracker (VTX) enabling measurement of secondary vertices in front of the PHENIX muon arms. This allows the identification of heavy-quark decays (charm and beauty) into muons, while also allowing rejection of pion and kaon decays into muons. We describe the FPGA based data acquisition system that is being developed for this detector.
