Abstract :
Several changes have been introduced in the design of the ITER divertor, following the reduction in size of the machine and the increased attention on reducing its cost. The new design is aimed at achieving a cost reduction with respect to the 1998 design of about 50%. This appears possible, in view of the improved understanding of the design issues of the divertor, and an increased confidence in the performance of some of the techniques used, obtained through the experimental work performed in recent years
