Abstract :
A life cycle approach is used to determine environmental requirements in the product development process. In that connection, a full-scale life cycle assessment (LCA) is a reliable method for the steering of ecodesign. However, in the electronics industry especially, LCA utilization in ecodesign has been found to be complicated, as it requires lot of working effort and data. In this study, the simplification options of LCA, or, more precisely, those of a life cycle inventory (LCI) model and a result indicator profile, producing reliable results for ecodesign were evaluated. Simplified LCA variations for three different electronic products were compared against more accurate and reference LCAs made.
