Abstract
We propose a simple and effective modeling method for creating animation opening flowers. Because the detailed geometry of flower petals is defined by a base shape deformation, we simulate the development of petal based on deformation and emulate its growth by change the deformation parameters. The structural arrangement of flower petals is established by the L-system that produces natural looking flowers. Our deformation methods can generate an animation in about 1.5 minutes. In contrast to existing systems that simulate the development of flattened 3D petals, the feature of deformation method is calculated efficiently. We show the feasibility of our method by creating animations of Asiatic lily.
