Abstract :
Query functions decide the design of the TGIS data model to a certain extent. A self-contained frame of spatiotemporal queries (SCFSTQ) is needed to design a TGIS. A spatio-temporal geographical entity (STGE) is proposed, which includes absolute geographical entity (AGE), geographical state entity (GSE) and geographical event entity (GEE). A SCFSTQ is obtained based on Sintons´ research and STGE. Existing TGIS data models and system structures are analyzed from the point of view of the SCFSTQ and STGE. A basic methodology for designing TGIS is given. Using a dynamic monitoring land use database as an example, the basic idea of a comprehensive spatio-temporal data model (CSTDM) is described
