Abstract :
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) play a vital and irreplaceable role in fire safety programs. They offer the stability needed to insure that fire safety is maintained over the life of a product. This stability also translates to them being persistent when released into the environment. Although detected in the environment in extremely small quantities, well below established threshold levels, detection at any level becomes a threat to ban. The producers of brominated flame retardants recognize the need to control and reduce emissions and have developed a straightforward, dynamic and measurable program, VECAP, to address this.
