Abstract :
We propose a hybrid fiber optic sensor consisting of a fiber Bragg grating and a birefringent fiber for structural health monitoring. Fiber Bragg grating has been used for quasi-distributed measurement and modal interference in birefringent fiber for fully distributed measurement of strain simultaneously. Results are presented for the applied strain of 0-2500 μstrain in simply supported beams.
