  • Abstract
A novel technique that can be used to synchronize pickup converters with primary supply of a bi-directional inductive power transfer (IPT) system is presented. The technique uses an induced voltage in an auxiliary winding, located on the pick-up side, to produce a synchronizing signal which in turn can be utilized to drive the pick-up side converters at any given phase delay with respect to the primary side. A detailed analysis of the proposed technique is presented to verify its stability under varying component values. The viability of the technique, which is applicable to both single and multiple pick-up IPT systems, is demonstrated through simulations of a 1 kW bi-directional IPT system.
