Abstract :
Rail infra monitoring was introduced in the Netherlands by Strukton Railinfra in 1999 under the trademark of POSSreg. Since 2005 a total of 1200 points are monitored nationwide and a decrease of point failures of 60% can be reached. Switch heating monitoring and axle counter monitoring are also in operation. Test sites for level crossings, train detection and axle weight are success full. In Europe POSSreg is in use at sites in Germany, Sweden and Italy.
