Abstract
A numerical simulation model of hydraulic free piston engine has been generated based on Amesim to predict and optimize engine design and control parameters. The piston dynamics, scavenge process, combustion process, and hydraulic pumping are coupled together for systematic analysis with the code, unique features of the free piston engine are presented and their effects on engine operation are revealed, along with potential advantages and disadvantages compared to the crank engines.
