Abstract :
Reliable and trustworthy routing operation is a very crucial requirement in Vehicular Communication (VC) that enables a new set of applications to improve active safety, traffic efficiency and driving comfort. To make this application possible, a security mechanism must be taken into account. Major security issue for VC is secure routing. Practical routing schemes in VC are geographic-based, which heavily relies on validation of position broadcasting. In this paper, we present a novel Message Fabrication Detection mechanism, called MEFAD scheme. This scheme is designed to recognize vehicle-fabricating information in VANETs. This technique is employed in the context of beaconless-based routing so-called contention-based routing (CBR). The goal of our approach is to prevent malicious nodes or vehicles from intercepting packets in transmission. This is achieved by allowing moving vehicles to collaborate with each other in order to select a trustworthy vehicle to forward the packets to a destination. We demonstrate the practical use of our solution through many case studies as well as indicate important research directions.
