  • Abstract
    A new control package is developed for the purpose of power system control in general, and static compensator (StatCom) control in particular. This control package involving a computer aided engineering (CAE) platform and a DSP-based controller is developed. Furthermore, an improved PI control method using relay auto-tuning and fuzzy rule base techniques is implemented on the platform to adapt to the nonlinear and time varying characteristics in the StatCom and the power system. The relay-based autotuning scheme is used to find out the appropriate PI gains with respect to a set of operation points, consequently to facilitate the establishment of the desired fuzzy rule base. This control strategy has been installed in the CAE platform and tested through field experiments on a real 10 kVAr StatCom. The results show that the proposed control strategy is effective and the developed CAE platform and the DSP-based controller are convenient and useful for control implementation
