Abstract :
One of the greatest challenges of interconnecting LANs with an ISDN is that most LANs are working in a connectionless (CL) way. However, the ISDN provides connection-oriented (CO) services. We model the transformation of CL, service and CO service using generalized stochastic Petri nets. The results shows that for highly bursty LAN traffic, only increasing the buffer size of the gateway is useless. It is necessary to cooperate with the high level protocol (such as TCP) to control the burstiness
