Abstract :
The remote geothermal method (RGM) uses satellite infra-red thermal images for the determination and mapping convective heat flow (CHF). Application of this method on the vast territory of Russia produced untrivial results. The anomalously high CHF (few tens of W/m2) was observed at 5-10% of the total territory of East European and West Siberian platforms. The similarity and the regularity of giant thermal features were noticed. The reason of this regularity was explained and verified by using seismic and gravity surveys, as well as on the base of mathematical simulations of mantle convection. Two types of mantle convection - mantle plumes and "hot streams" which produce "hot spots" were interpreted. Additionally, ring and oval twin features were noticed after an interpretation of subcontinent scale digital satellite mosaics. The conclusion about plate drift as the main reason of twin features formation was done. The regular system of "hot spot" and mantle plume centres paleopositions were mapped by using NOAA satellite digital data. The vectors of Euro-Asian plate drift were determined as the displacement of these paleopostions.
