Abstract :
A novel technique is proposed for the numerical solution of the strongly singular, first-kind Fredholm integral equation for the electric field (EFIE) used in the analysis of printed structures. By properly extracting the singular part of the kernel, it is shown that the EFIE can be transformed into a second-kind Fredholm equation having favourable numerical properties, and that the singular nature of the kernel appears to guarantee the practical convergence of the scheme. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the technique; they show that a highly sparse matrix is obtained, with highly peaked diagonals.
