Abstract
Design and engineering processes are complex and inherently parallel. There is a need for a framework which allows document management for all phases of complex engineering tasks. The first part of the paper presents an introduction into the most challenging issues of this field. In the second part of the paper a case study from the area of car manufacturing is presented in which intranet technology is used to support design and engineering processes
