Abstract :
This paper describes millimeter-wave fiber optic technologies for subcarrier transmission systems to be used for future mobile systems. In addition, the system concept and several fundamental technologies needed for these subcarrier transmission systems are described. It is expected that these microcellular systems will require many radio base stations, so miniaturization of the stations-should be conisidered. Monolithic integrated circuits are expected to be one of the key technologies used in system constructions. The characteristics of a millimeter-wave monolithic integrated circuit using a novel multilayer configuration and those of a newly-developed optical receiver are described. In addition, the characteristics of a millimeter-wave fiber optic link are experimentally examined.
